Sheffield Humanists: Rethinking Wealth - Universal Basic Income

Dr Reinhard Huss from UBI Lab in Leeds joins the Sheffield Humanists to explore how a Universal Basic Income could create a fairer, greener world.

Join the Sheffield Humanists to explore how UBI could evolve from a concept to a global reality. Reinhard will discuss the work of the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN) and its vision for UBI, examine creative funding sources such as wealth taxes and payments for using shared resources, and address common concerns about costs and feasibility. This conversation will challenge current ideas about our shared resources, suggesting they aren't 'free for all' but rather our 'collective wealth' – assets we should protect for future generations.

We are thrilled to announce that Natalie Bennett, Green Peer and former Green Party leader, will be sharing her thoughts on the potential impact of a UBI on sustainable diets and food systems with us.

Universal basic income (UBI) is a simple idea with huge potential to address poverty and inequality: just give people money, as a right of citizenship, not as welfare.

In this session to coincide with London Challenge Poverty Week, Daniel Mermelstein, a campaigner with UBI Lab London, will introduce the concept of UBI and explain why it can be a powerful tool in the fight against poverty and inequality. He will also address some of the common objections and misconceptions around UBI.

There is an endless expectation of what you're going to be...rather than just being able to Be…!
