Poverty isn't a lack of character - It's a lack of cash
Let's give people Basic Income
Universal basic income (UBI) is a simple idea with huge potential to address poverty and inequality: just give people money, as a right of citizenship, not as welfare.
In this session to coincide with London Challenge Poverty Week, Daniel Mermelstein, a campaigner with UBI Lab London, will introduce the concept of UBI and explain why it can be a powerful tool in the fight against poverty and inequality. He will also address some of the common objections and misconceptions around UBI.
Daniel will discuss an exciting new trial of UBI that is taking shape near where he lives in North London and how it has been gathering support from the local community and local decision makers.
UBI is an idea that has been gaining popularity in opinion polls, as people battle with the consequences of the cost of living crisis and the increasing precariousness of work. Come to this session to find more about it!
There will be plenty of time for Q&A.
